Evoking The Invisible Lesbian was exhibited at Site Eight Gallery, RMIT University School of Art, Melbourne, in June 2023.

This installation, a culmination of my PhD research, explored ways in which marginalisation had shaped a personal narrative and a lived life. Through photo-based praxis, performance, creative writing, and sculpture, the project examined the complexities of my journey from “teenage tomboy” to adult lesbian in working-class Edinburgh during the 1980s and 1990s. It unpacked personal and historical intersections through the articulation of a shifting identity and an emerging awareness of gender and sexual identity. Informed by lived experience, feminist and queer methodologies, creative practice, and Sara Ahmed’s queer phenomenology, the work contributes to the visibility of lesbian and queer lived experiences within contemporary art practice..
